When some Europeans came and colonized the land, naming it America, they brought with them the commodification of Earth(lings) through capitalism, and an economic system founded in genocide, slavery, and displacement.

We wish to actively support decolonization, restorative justice, transformative justice, and reparation.

We recognize that we are based on soil not historically and collectively indigenous to Europeans. The Indigenous name for Long Island (where we are located) is Paumanauke or Sewanhackey.

The brutality of European colonization and industrialization continues to oppress those who were and are native to this land, to those who regard(ed) and honor(ed) Earth(lings) as Sacred. We wish to give our respect and reverence to the Land and Its/Her/the Human and Other Than Human People who are Native to It/Her through this acknowledgment. The tribes native to this land that have been displaced and continue to experience injustice are the Canarsie, Rockaways, Merricks, Massapequas, Matinecocks, Nissaquogues, Setaukets, Corchaugs, Secatogues, Unkechaugs, Shinnecock, Montaukett, and Manhanset.

BRC acknowledges the ongoing oppressions of the Earth(ling) Industrial Complex. We recognize how systems disproportionately disadvantage and oppress the Black Community and People of Color, Indigenous People and that institutional, industrialized America was founded on slave labor and white supremacy. Recognizing the complex interactions of the conglomerate manipulation, the effects of intergenerational abuse, heritage trauma, sexism, heteronormativity and cisgendered normativity, we strive to acknowledge all traumas in individual and collective contexts, historical contexts, and stress the value and importance of intersectionality (white heterosexual cisgendered human male can have trauma and have white human male cisgendered heterosexual privilege at the same time). We seek to create safe, healing spaces, remaining mindful of the importance of being trauma and shame-informed of all Earthlings.

As evolving in consciousness and embracing lifelong learning, we want to make an amends to all Earth(lings). The domestication and oppression and violence toward other species, set the tone for the violence and oppression of othered humans, through imperial conquest. The objectification of Earth and her Inhabitants has led to nothing but collective and individual demise and suffering. Before Human, we are Animal and Earthlings. Our basic needs and capacity for love, empathy, and bonding is rooted in us as Animals. We all share the same needs and desires. Other species are our kin. The Elements and Plant life provide sustenance for all Animal Species People and so we honor them both in their own right and by practicing only taking what we need and changing both our consumer behaviors and fighting the exploitative and predatory practices of conglomerates that manipulate the masses and systems that both condition human-kind to be in opposition to our true selves and nature.
